You’ll have surely heard of facial peels (sometimes called a chemical peel) which you can get from spas and salons. It smooths the texture of the skin using a chemical solution which removes the dead skin cells. The skin underneath is usually much smoother and less wrinkled. There are also home based over the counter kits available. While these may sound like a great way to burn half your face off, they’re actually pretty safe if used correctly. They’re quite low strength strength so, unlike some spa treatments, there won’t be excessive peeling. The worst side effect you’re likely to get flaky skin & redness. So don’t let the scary “chemical peel” phrase put you off!
These home kits can also be substantially cheaper than getting the process done at a salon. Here are a few of the best:
Glycolic Acid Gel Peel
This contains around 20 chemical peels. It penetrates the epidermal & dermal skin layers, and in doing this removes dead skin cells and reduces the size of the pores. The skin looks visibly healthier and shinier after treatment. The great thing with this peel is it isn’t just acid. It also contains other stuff which is great for your skin like:
- Cucumber extract which contains antioxidants and assists in skin tightening.
- Green tea which has anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties.
- Vitamin A which promotes collagen and reduces wrinkles & fine lines.

Salicylic Acid 20% Gel Peel
<This peel contains around 15 treatments. As with the above peel it’s great at treating signs of aging, but the manufacturers also claim this peel is perfect for treating acne and hyperpigmentation. This is because Salicylic acid works well on oily skin. All you need to do is cleanse your skin apply the peel for 3-5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with water. This should be done twice a week at first.
The only side effects you’re likely to feel is a slight tingling followed by a tiny bit of redness. It’s not too expensive either. Have a look at the latest prices.
Vivo Per Lei Facial Peeling
Unlike the first two peels this one comes in a nice looking container. It’s also one of the lowest priced facial peels; that is if you buy it online. They are often sold at kiosks in malls for hugely inflated prices. Don’t be conned – buy online so you know you’re getting the best price! This peel won’t strip away oils or overly irritate the skin. It just removes the dead layers of dry skin cells as you rub it into your skin.
It leaves the skin feeling smooth and silky but also does a good job of substantially reducing the size of your pores. This really helps when you’re putting make up on afterwards.
Swisa Beauty Dead Sea Facial Peel
Like the first product this one also contains lots of extra ingredients which help you skin, such as:
- Echinacea – Helps reduce inflammation.
- Ginseng – Can stimulate the skin’s metabolism and increase blood flow.
- Rosemary – Prevents the build up of bacteria.
- Green Tea Extract – As stated above, green tea has anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties.
The Swisa Beauty peel can remove blackheads, whiteheads, skin blemishes and reduce the size of your pores. Dead skin is also easily removed with minimal irritation. As a general guide the first two products are more professional based. They don’t come with any special packaging or frills. Typically they are more expensive and work a little better than the second two products. However all products have received positive reviews – you shouldn’t be disappointed with any of them.
